Abstract
The text reports the results of the BAMBOO # PAVILION design competition held at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria (Italy) in collaboration with the College of Civil Engineering of Nanjing Tech University (China) and it is part of the joint actions provided for by the Memorandum of Understanding For Faculty and Student Mobility, signed by the two institutions with which we want to promote study and research relationships, and the exchange of students, PhD students and university professors between the two Universities
The competition for the design of an exhibition pavilion to be realized with bamboo technology was divided into a single phase aimed at identifying the best project idea among those presented and open exclusively to students and PhD students of the University.
The goal is the design of an exhibition pavilion to be realized with bamboo structures, such as GluBam, an eco-sustainable building material, light and flexible, solid and resistant. Nanjing Tech University’s College of Civil Engineering will take care of the engineering and implementation of the winning project in its own research laboratories.
The project had to meet the following requirements: Be made with the technology of structural bamboo; be designed to enhance the expressiveness of the material; hosting a free exhibition space; Be flexible and transformable.
